There are certain qualifications required of art therapists.

In Canada, professional art therapists must have at minimum a master’s level diploma or master’s degree in art therapy to practice. This graduate level education includes supervised clinical practicum hours (600 hours minimum for Canadian art therapy students), thus ensuring the safety of the client as well as professional liability for agencies and employers offering this form of therapy.

Behaviour intervention is a type of behavioural support that focuses on teaching skills in the areas of communication, self-regulation, daily life, routines, play, and leisure to encourage behaviours that could positively affect a child's wellbeing and relationships with self and others. Our therapists utilize their training in music to support a child's behavioural growth. For children with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), we are eligible for funding as BIs (Behaviour Interventionists) through the AFU (the Government Autism Funding Unit).

I work people of all ages and backgrounds and I have experience working with neurodivergent and/or queer people (of all ages, genders, identities) who want to pause, explore and reconnect. Societal expectations of how we should act and navigate the world can be exhausting. It can be hard to feel safe enough to reconnect with our inner selves, fearlessly use art materials, explore difficult topics, and live authentically. No art making experience needed. Everyone can make art.

As an art therapist, my role is to guide clients through the art making process, and the thoughts that may come up. My job is not to interpret your art, but rather listen and support you as you gain your own insight. I hope to collaboratively build the safety needed to be with my clients as they reconnect with their authentic selves.

Art Therapy is a mental health service that utilizes art making with models of counselling and psychotherapy that takes into account the many ways individuals learn, remember, process, and express themselves. Solely using words cannot always fully encapsulate one’s experiences and feelings.
